Ms. Case would sing alone or together with the phonograph, or would stop singing and allow the phonograph to continue by itself. In one demonstration, the lights were turned off while she sang, at which point she left the stage while the phonograph continued, to prove that the audience could not tell the difference between live performance and the phonograph recording.
